GREY clouds, bringing muchneeded rain, will hang over Wagga and most of the Riverina until the end of the week.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, showers of rain have been forecast for the region until Thursday.
Rain has fallen across most of the Riverina since Sunday, reaching many properties and delighting farmers in the lead up to spring. Lamb and grain farmer Jill Carroll said her “Glenmore” property, 10km north of Ardlethan, had received a good soaking of rain in the past few days.
“We have had over an inch of rain so far,” Mrs Carroll said yesterday.
“It is just raining on and off now … it started in the early hours of this morning (Monday) and we have had some heavy showers.”
Although more rain is still desperately needed, Mrs Carroll remained optimistic.
“It is really hard, this is the worst winter we have had,” she said.
“This year we had to buy feed oats, which is the first time in 40 years we have had to.
“This rain is still absolutely fantastic … it might not put money in the bank but it does uplift you.”
Elders Wagga agronomist Andrew Barber said the recent down pours would be welcomed by farmers.
“Most of the farmers are pretty happy. It keeps them going along,” he said.
Wagga, Cootamundra, Khancoban, Narrandera and Yanco all received more than 20 millimetres of rain from 9am Sunday to 3pm yesterday afternoon.
